Statement regarding the consultation process to prepare guidelines for the provision of termination of pregnancy services by general practitioners

The Irish College of General Practitioners has begun a comprehensive consultation process with its members on the feasibility of providing termination of pregnancy services by general practitioners.

The consultation process is being carried out via electronic means and has been circulated to all members.

To enable this feedback process, the ICGP produced a document entitled "Draft ICGP Position Paper on the Feasibility of providing a termination of pregnancy clinical care pathway."

This document asks members to provide feedback on all areas within the document, and is NOT a set of clinical guidelines, as stated in some media outlets in recent days.

This document is a draft position paper, not a set of clinical guidelines.

The consultation process will close on 21st September next. The feedback will guide the College in drafting clinical guidelines for the provision of termination of pregnancy services.
