Not too infrequent a presentation in general practice and common in pregnancy, after stings, allergies and arthritic diseases of the fingers. Most of the home remedies have been tried before coming to the surgery such as soap,window cleaner and threading a string under the ring. There is usually no option but to destroy the ring with bolt-cutters.
A novel device – called Ring Rescue – has been released in the US. It operates like a small blood pressure cuff and is placed and inflated just distal to the ring. The cuff reduces the swelling and after a few minutes the ring can be easily removed. Visit www.ringrescue.com for details.
